As the host studio for  WCLZ Studio Z performances, our audio production students have had the opportunity to work with national touring artists including Noah Kahan, Madison Cunningham, The Heavy Heavy, Talk, Joe P., Joseph, Goose, Hiss Golden Messenger, and more. They are also part of the soup to nuts production process for  Maine favorites like The Mallet Brothers and emerging new talent! 

Who Is our 12 & 24 Week Audio Production Training For?  

  • Adults of all ages seeking vocational-style professional development working on real projects in a commercial recording studio. 
  • Anyone who studied in an audio production program but still needs hands-on experience 
  • Artists/Producers who have home studios and want to hone their skills and up their game

Interested in our 12-Week Audio Production Training Programs but need to go at your own pace and on your own schedule? Have a home studio or experience in recording and production but need to get trained up to run our studio so you can begin working from our wold class facility? This program is great for motivated professionals and students looking for more customized training with a flexible schedule.

The Recording Club at The Studio Portland offers students practical experience recording and mixing in an acoustically tuned environment that allows for accurate production techniques. This professional development program is for adults of all ages seeking vocational-style training and experience working on real projects in a commercial recording studio. This apprenticeship-style experience is great for anyone who isn't sure about an investment in a 4-year college track, but wants to gain skills and confidence to work in a commercial studio. OR even those who graduated from college but still need hands-on experience. Students who have taken this course but want to deepen their mastery and gain more studio hours may take multiple sessions. Return students will be given more leadership roles and responsibilities, and will have documented completion of multiple levels, and the opportunity to "test out" to qualify to work independently as an engineer at our studio.

At the end of this program, students will be able to demonstrate their experience with:

Ear Training and Acoustics Analog Recording Console Management (API 2448) Patch Bay Management with Analog Hardware Processing Pro-Tools Speakers/Monitoring Full Band Tracking & Pre-Production Drum Production Drum Editing & Tempo Mapping Bass Electric Guitar Amp Simulation & In The Box Processing Acoustic Guitar Pianos / Keys String Ensemble Horns & Woodwinds Vocal Production Vocal Processing Sound Design Basics Sound Replacement and Sample Design
Virtual Instrument Production Midi Production Full Band Setup Full Band Tracking Band Editing Overdubs Mixing (EQ, Compression, Reverb, Delay & Effects) Mastering

Classes are scheduled Mondays and Tuesdays 10 AM - 4 PM. If this does not work with your schedule, flexible/custom scheduling options are available so work commitments, other classes, or parenting schedules should not be an obstacle! Course "semester" begins Monday, January 8, 2024.

All bookings are final and non-refundable. If you are unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances The Recording Club will extend credit for a future program or service of the same value

For High School students or mature middle schoolers studio who can't get enough of audio production and want to take their laptop production to the next level! From making beats to learning hands-on how the most famous records in music history were made, this is a 3-day immersive experience in a professional recording studio. Students will work on

For High School students or mature middle schoolers studio who can't get enough of audio production and want to take their laptop production to the next level! From making beats to learning hands-on how the most famous records in music history were made, this is a 3-day immersive experience in a professional recording studio. Students will work on crafting their own sounds and work with guest artists, taking part in their process. No experience required, but please be sure your student has a strong passion for recording and production and is able to operate respectfully and responsibly around high-value instruments and recording gear.

The program runs Monday, July 15 through Wednesday, July 17 from 10 AM - 4 PM each day. Light snacks (chips, protein bars, fruit snacks, etc), water and other N/A beverages are provided. Campers should plan to bring a lunch or bring money to purchase pizza from the famous Pizzaiolo just around the corner or another local spot! We ask for all studio guests to remove their street shoes and bring a pair of slides or slippers for the studio. Extra slippers are available if needed.

**Please note that all bookings are final and non-refundable. If the camper is unable to attend for any reason, credit will be extended for a studio program or service of equal value.
